01 — The work
What engineers do at Arrow Energy
Three kinds of work: design from first principles, commissioning on site, and R&D.
Arrow Energy Co., Ltd. is a Thai engineering company — described in full on the About Arrow Energy Co., Ltd. page — that designs, builds and services electrostatic precipitators, the proprietary Electrocyclone, and boiler pressure parts. The engineering work here splits three ways.
Design. ESPs are sized from the plant's own fuel analysis, gas flow and emission target — not scaled from a previous job. A designer here works the full chain: dust load in mg/Nm³ at stated O₂, migration-velocity sizing (Matts-Öhnfeldt, k ≈ 0.5), collecting area, field count, absorbed power, and the n−1 case. On the published design basis that means taking 6,000 mg/Nm³ of bagasse fly ash down to 24 mg/Nm³ at 6 % O₂ dry through an Electrocyclone and four-field electrostatic precipitator — and being able to show every step.
Site. Field engineers run erection checks, air-load V-I curves, gas-load tuning and guarantee tests to EPA Method 5 / ISO 9096 — the sequence described under commissioning services — at plants in Thailand, Indonesia and Latin America. Cold plus hot commissioning of a four-field ESP indicatively takes 2–4 weeks on site.
R&D. The Samut Sakhon centre develops the Electrocyclone pre-collector — 85–95 % stage collection at service temperatures to 400 °C — and DeSOx/DeNOx flue-gas treatment. R&D engineers run test campaigns, reduce the data and feed the results directly into the sizing rules the design office uses.

Field-service and commissioning roles are staffed from all four disciplines and travel across Thailand, Indonesia and Latin America; the Jakarta office additionally hires locally for Indonesian site work. What is it like to work as an engineer at Arrow Energy?
Design reviews are decided by calculation, not by rank: an engineer two years out of university who brings a correct sizing — collecting area, migration velocity, absorbed power, all with units — wins the argument against a senior opinion without one. The trade-off is that every claim you make will be checked the same way.
That standard comes from the top: the CEO reviews proposals and rejects unsupported numbers, and the same review culture applies internally. What the company values in engineers, concretely: the habit of writing the basis before the answer; willingness to go to site and see the equipment that the drawings describe; and curiosity about failures — a burned insulator or a warped plate is treated as data, not as blame. What it does not require: prior ESP experience. The physics is taught; the discipline of showing your work is the entry requirement.
